Our Volunteers
Our volunteers and supporters are the lifeblood of our organisation. Much of what we do is provided through the goodwill of people who perform tasks on our behalf, such as drive minibuses and deliver food parcels, or give their support to us in some other way, such as with administration or organisation. They are a vital resource to us and we are keen to ensure that our volunteers are properly trained, supported, recognised for the exceptional gift of time that they give.
We are hugely indebted to our volunteers

Addie Granville
Volunteer Coordinator
Having been a volunteer at Heritage House since 2019, Addie Granville has agreed to take up an extra unpaid role working within the HH team with special focus on looking after our family of volunteer helpers without whom the centre could not operate.
Journalist trained, Addie’s background is marketing and event management in the entertainment and consumer sectors and enjoyed many years as a volunteer and committee member (fundraising and event management) for the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Centre in North London which is solely funded by the music industry. Husband Bevil’s manufacturing business is based in Mileham with the family home nearby. Addie will be based at Heritage once a week starting on April 16th.
About the house
The formal launch of Heritage House took place on the 23rd of September 1985.
During the previous five years, a group of far-sighted local people had witnessed a growing need to provide activity and support for the elderly, many of whom were lonely and living in isolated rural villages.
When the decision came from the Area Health Authority to close the Nurses’ Home at Wells Cottage Hospital, this pioneering group spotted an opportunity and purchased the building and land to set up the much needed day care centre, raising the necessary £37,000 in just 6 months through a concentrated fundraising campaign. With the new building acquired and the first coordinator appointed (Sheila Warner, who remained in that role until her retirement 17 years later) Heritage House began to welcome the first day visitors one day a week at first before gradually increasing until 2008, when the House began to open five days a week.
There have been so many people who have been instrumental to the success of HH, none more so than the founders and their immediate successors.
The current Chair, Trustees, and everyone at Heritage House are indebted to the foresight and commitment of their predecessors including Graham and Enid Cawdon, Ann Sayer, Sheila Warner, Mary Rodwell, Lady Feilden, Paul Raywood, Scilla Landale and Adrian and Pamela Underwood.
